A: It is human nature to sing. First of all, forget that singing is something that has to be learned. There are sounds in every language that virtually are sung. For example: the response Hmmmmm is one such sound. Second, play with sound, play with your voice, make up music and words; you do not have to start by trying to sing songs or match someone else’s voice. When you make up your own tune and words, there is no right or wrong. Begin by doing something where there is no judgment on your part or others, you will be far more spontaneous when you do want to sing a regular song. Third, when you want to improve your voice further, then consider joining a choir or finding a teacher. There are many suggestions for self-help and a CD with accompaniments in The Singing Book, by Meribeth Dayme & Cynthia Vaughn published by WW Norton. The book was written with beginners in mind.
